This past week a survey was conducted at Austin High School regarding romantic relationships. The survey consisted of 15 questions which involved asking survey takers to classify and count the different types of relationships they’ve had (either as a crush, situationship, or relationship), quantify the length of their relationships (shortest, longest, and average), asked a variety of other questions such as how they met their partner or if they have ever been cheated on, and inquired about their feelings regarding their relationship’s level of commitment and longevity. Overall, the survey received 47 responses. The results are below, and they allow us to gain insight on relationship culture in high school, more specifically, at Austin.
The results contain some insightful takeaways. The key takeaways are as follows:
– Most high schoolers (23.4%) claim that either 0 or 3-5 people have had a crush on them, with a minority (10.6%) claiming that 2 people have.
-The majority (34%) say they’ve had 2 crushes, with over 95% saying they’ve had at least one.
-Just under 50% of high schoolers haven’t had any relationships, with the majority of those who have, only having had one.
-Typical relationships last either 2 weeks or 6 months (10.6%).
-Most survey takers (27.7%) claim to have met their partner through mutual friends.
-Majority of high schoolers (14.9%) are unsure as to whether or not their relationship will last past high school, with a small number of people (10.6%) believing it will.
-Most (42.9%) would consider their relationships somewhat serious, with 40.5% seeing their relationships as very serious, and the remaining 16.7% viewing their relationship as “just for fun”.
-Just a little under half of those surveyed (45.7%) claim that they are not in a relationship and do not want to be in one, with the remaining students (54.3%) either being with a partner or wanting one.
These takeaways reveal a lot about the dating culture at Austin High School, and are a good gauge for others to compare their own experiences to. High school relationships (or lack thereof) are an important part of growing up, and are heavily influential to the way that highschoolers turn out in the future, and how they deal with romantic relationships to come. Whether you’ve been in several relationships or never even had a crush, the results should be interesting and insightful.
