Girls Football team makes AHS History
Written by: Zulaykha Ganatra
There’s a new team on our football field. For the first time in school history, there is
a girls’ football team here at AHS. They’re already making quite an impact, showing
everyone that football isn’t just a sport for guys.
The athletes on the team are focused and ready to break the stereotypes that
haven’t allowed girls to play football. They’re showing that not only here to compete, but
to create a change and inspire other female athletes.
“Growing up in a place where women aren’t allowed to participate in sports has only
fueled my determination,” said player Khadija Khuwaja. “To show that women deserve
the opportunity to play too.”
The team isn’t just focused on winning games, they’re focused on sticking together and
staying strong no matter what obstacles they face. This mindset keeps them motivated,
both on and off the field.
“The team goals are to stick together through the worst and win!” exclaimed Khuwaja.
They’ve managed to build a bond in the short amount of time that they’ve been a team.
All the players push each other to succeed and are supportive of one another.
“The team is very supportive and driven!” explained Khuwaja.
Being part of the first-ever AHS girls’ football team is something the players are very
proud of. They’re doing more than just playing a sport, they are opening doors for future
female athletes.
“It feels incredible to be pioneers and set a precedent for future girls’ teams in Austin,”
said Khuwaja.
