Return of the Herrm

As Friday night lights approach, the anticipation in the air is at an all-time high. The upcoming game against their rival school, Travis High School is not just another high school football game. It feels different this time around. It’s clear that the recent return of Trey Herrmann is one that’s on everyone’s minds.
With only the top four teams from district qualifying for playoffs, the stakes couldn’t be any higher. Austin currently sits in fourth place, but the competition is fierce. Rivals Ridge Point, Hightower, and Elkins high schools are ahead, and a win against Travis is a big step towards Austin high school going to playoffs.
The significance of the game against Travis is more impactful than just a win or loss. It represents a turning point for the program that has faced challenges in recent years, including a UIL probation that impacted the team’s performance and reputation. Coach Herrmann, who returned to the sidelines for last week’s game against Clements, is now looking to lead the team to yet another victory. His first game back was filled with determination and a renewed sense of purpose, but Friday’s clash with Travis will test the team’s ability to adapt and perform under pressure.
“Having Coach Herrmann back has been huge for the team’s success. He is the heart of this team,“ William Herrmann said. “His ability to make in game adjustments and understanding the flow of the game has really allowed us to take our game to the next level.”
With Herrmann back in the coaching scene for the stretch run, the big question of playoffs still lingers.
“Right now we are only worried about the game this week,” Koen Herrmann said. “We’ll deal with that later.”
But as Friday’s game approaches, one thing is clear as day, the team is ready to bring it their all. With a strong school community rallying behind them, the players are prepared to give everything they have on the field. A win against Travis High School would mark a new chapter in Austin football—one filled with hope, determination, and the promise of a brighter future.
“The overall team culture has grown tremendously and I think that boils down to just loving football,” William Herrmann said. “This team is like a family with one common goal in mind, and that’s the culture that has allowed us to become a better program.”
