Despite the holiday cheer spreading through the hallways, there’s a chill settled over students as this semester comes to an end. With the final exams commencing on Dec. 17, students have been counting exemptions, getting the last few grades in, and pacing to get those high “B”s to an “A”.

Although fall semester exams may be the easier of the obstacles to come during spring semester – STAAR testing, SAT exams, and AP exams – students appear anxious to successfully run the final lap for this semester.
“I feel scared for my sleep schedule,” junior Quynh Tran said. “But I’m glad the semester is going to be over. We’re all going to go home and have a long break!”
Students aren’t alone in hustling during finals week. The additional stress standing between teachers and winter break gets them working as hard as students do during this week.
“I probably feel the same way students do. It’s added stress at the end I could live without,” AP English Language and Composition teacher Daniel Johnson said. “I try to use it mainly as an opportunity to practice AP skills. But I’ve always felt like by themselves finals don’t really have much value anymore.”
However, despite all the review and testing that is going to be the center for the next couple of weeks, students look optimistic and are motivated to close off the semester, and the year, with spirit.
“I feel a little nervous because the finals may be a little difficult,” sophomore Ira Mutta said. “But with the right studying and hard work, I’ll do good!”
