School links stinks

Something needs to be done

Written by: Zulaykha Ganatra

Every year, the students have to choose their course selection for the next school
year, which proves difficult thanks to School Links. It is supposed to be a pretty
straightforward process, look at your graduation requirements and your interests
and choose what fits the best. But now this simple process has become a very
frustrating one.
School Links is a platform that schools use for various things, now including
course selection, it was supposed to make the process easier and more efficient. However, in
reality, it is just overcomplicating things and confusing students. Instead of letting
students plan out their schedules easily, it’s a battle against an inefficient system.
One of the biggest issues is that it misses important details, like prerequisites or
course descriptions. Students must look through PDFs that may be outdated or have
classes that aren’t offered, or they have to contact their counselors who already have a
handful on their plate. Sometimes the system even glitches, not showing a class that
should be there.
Course selection should be exciting, it’s an opportunity to explore your interests
or challenge yourself. Instead, School Links has made it stressful and confusing.
Schools should either fix the problems with the platform or switch back to Skyward.
Students should be able to easily make decisions for the next year of their academic
careers, and not be overwhelmed and confused because of a platform. It affects students
but also counselors as well.
