“I’m happy I didn’t flop like last year, so that’s a good thing,” state-qualifier Lloyd Gomez said. “I’m looking forward to state and hoping to score a medal, if not win.”

Despite circumstances being against the girls’ team as illnesses ran through the team the week prior to regions, the spirit remained high.

“Regionals didn’t exactly go my way because I was really sick,” Kim Kulow said. “But it was still super fun to be there and swim against fast people.”

The state-qualifiers’ performance got special shout-outs from their coaches.“

A really big shoutout to Lloyd Gomez for his individuals and helping the relay make it to state,” coach North said. “Mason Ramsauer for pulling a rabbit out of his hat and making it to state….and having the most amazing anchor leg I’ve ever seen in a in a fifty freestyle on a relay. And to Reed Thompson and who finaled in both of his events.”

After out-performing every other FBISD team, the boys’ and girls’ team
beat some top teams like Clements that have a lot more athletes.
“It’s nice to be able to put in a lot of time and effort into these kids and
see it work,” coach Brogan said. “It’s always nice to go in knowing that
another team has better athletes than you, but you’re a harder working

team than them, so you beat them, and that’s one of my favorite things to
do in athletics.”
