One Last Touchdown

By Safa Aziz – Staff Writer

With the 2026 football season coming to an end, the senior football players are sad to go, but they leave behind a legacy of relentless grit and determination. The team fought through a challenging stretch early on, using every week as an opportunity to grow and prove they never back down from a challenge

“I feel kind of disappointed; this isn’t how I wanted the season to go because with the new coaches and how they approached the program I had faith in them. I believed it was really a new Austin,” stated Edwin Nosa. “As we’re getting to our last game I kind of feel empty, like this is it. I played for 6 years and now it’s over.”

The Dawgs, led by first year coach Chris Wilson, started the season 1-0 with a blowout of Bellaire but have since lost eight straight, including a 55-9 loss last week against Hightower. The record doesn’t look pretty at 1-8, but there were some “quality” losses in there, including one-score games vs. Travis, Clements, and Bush.

“Although I am sad for my last high school I am also extremely proud not only for myself, but the guys around me as well,” said Trent McCoy. “I can confidently say that I have seen a huge growth in my teammates as well as my coaches and even though I sadly can’t go on another ride with them next year I know they will have a great upcoming year.”

The Dawgs wrap up the season tonight vs. Elkins. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Mercer.
