On Nov. 6, former Austin basketball player Lakeisha Brown passed away after being hit by an 18-wheeler. Brown, along with three other girls, was hit by the 18-wheeler while their car was parked on the side of a road due to a flat tire.
Brown, 19, had been part of the Lady Bulldogs’ basketball team during her time in high school.
“She was on the team my junior year,” former teammate Aminah Dixon said. “She was a true light and it was hard to stay in a bad mood once she was around.”
Brown was described as someone who always had a smile on her face and someone who always put her teammates before herself.
“She was the kind of teammate you looked to for strength and encouragement,” Dixon said. “Might not have gotten all the playing time, but the impact she made on her teammates such as myself is so felt.”
On the basketball team, Brown had been coached by coach Quatera Limbrick for a year. This year was also Limbrick’s first year coaching at Austin High School.
“Keisha was a great person, every time she walked into the room she was just a bright person, always smiling and making somebody else smile,” Limbrick said. “She was actually one of my favorite students. She had a great impact on my life during my first year at Austin.”
Brown is the second former Lady Bulldog to lose their life in a car accident in recent weeks. Hawa Wague died in a single car accident in Houston in October.
